Position Summary: The Journeyman Scaffold is responsible for performing skilled scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling work on active job sites, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and client requirements. This role involves hands-on field execution of scaffold systems, supporting daily construction operations, material handling, and structural assembly under the direction of the Foreman.

The Journeyman serves as a key skilled field member, ensuring productivity, safety compliance, and quality standards are maintained across all scaffold activities, including layout, assembly, bracing, planking, adjustments, and safe dismantling of scaffold structures in accordance with project specifications and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling activities on active job sites in accordance with company standards.
  • Support the Foreman in planning and executing scaffold layouts, material staging, and jobsite setup.
  • Ensure all scaffold work is completed in compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and client specifications.
  • Conduct daily job site hazard assessments and support enforcement of strict safety practices.
  • Assist in leading toolbox talks when assigned and communicate safety expectations to crew members.
  • Coordinate materials, tools, and equipment required for scaffold assembly and operations.
  • Support various field activities by staging materials, maintaining work areas, and assisting other crew members as needed.
  • Communicate daily progress, delays, and jobsite issues to the Foreman.
  • Ensure productivity and quality standards are met on all scaffold assignments.
  • Mentor and assist less experienced workers in safe scaffold erection and dismantling practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
  • Immediately correct unsafe acts or conditions on the jobsite.
  • Ensure all work meets client specifications, engineering requirements, and company expectations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4โ€“7 years of experience in industrial scaffold work (refinery, petrochemical, power plant, or similar industries).
  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in a leadership or lead role (Leadman, Crew Lead, or equivalent preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling procedures in industrial environments.
  • Experience working with various scaffold systems and components, including frame, tube & clamp, and system scaffolding.
  • Ability to read and interpret job scopes, scaffold drawings, and basic field instructions.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA scaffold standards and jobsite safety compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to support and coordinate crew activities in the field, including material handling and jobsite execution.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • TWIC Card
  • NCCER Certification (Insulation or related field)
  • Basic Plus / Safe Gulf or site-specific safety certification
  • Valid driverโ€™s license (as required)
  • Employment Authorization Document (EAD), if applicable

 

Preferred Experience

  • Industrial scaffold experience in refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants, or heavy construction sites.
  • Experience performing scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling on industrial projects.
  • Turnaround/shutdown project experience involving large-scale scaffold systems, maintenance, and outage work.
  • Experience working with different scaffold systems such as frame, tube & clamp, and modular/system scaffolding.
  • Experience coordinating scaffold activities with other crafts such as mechanical, insulation, pipefitting, or maintenance teams.
  • Familiarity with layout, material staging, and scaffold logistics on active job sites.
  • Experience working in environments with multiple crews and simultaneous industrial operations.
  • Exposure to inspection practices, scaffold safety requirements, and project specifications.

Work Condition & Physical Requirement

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Journeyman Scaffold works primarily in field environments with active involvement in scaffold operations. This position requires continuous presence on job sites, including construction sites, refineries, plants, shutdowns, maintenance projects, and industrial facilities where scaffold erection, modification, dismantling, and support activities are performed.

 

JOBSITE EXPOSURE: Work conditions may include exposure to outdoor weather, extreme temperatures, loud noise, heavy equipment, elevated work areas, and active industrial work zones. Exposure may also include confined spaces, hot work permit areas, and fire watch conditions when applicable. The Journeyman is directly involved in scaffold operations under the direction of the Foreman, including scaffold erection, modification, dismantling, and support activities in ongoing construction, maintenance, turnaround, and shutdown environments.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS: This position may require long hours, early starts, overtime, shutdown schedules, and occasional weekend work depending on project demands, operational priorities, and travel may also be required.

 

LEADERSHIP DEMAND: Physically and mentally demanding role requiring strong support, leadership, communication, and the ability to assist in guiding crews and maintaining productivity in a fast-paced field environment.

 

ORIENTATION: Must be able to successfully complete all required Resilience Corp LLC and client site specific orientation, safety training, and compliance requirements before beginning work.

 

HEAVY WORK: Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist and up to 35 pounds from waist to above shoulder level on a regular basis.

 

CLIMBING: Must be capable of ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and elevated structures, including heights exceeding 100 feet, while maintaining three-point contact and following all fall protection procedures.

 

LADDERS: Using vertical ladders frequently up to 100 feet Activity may exist up to 60% of the work shift depending on project scope.

 

STAIRS & RAMPS: Using stairs or ramps occasionally up to 100 feet Activity may exist up to 40% of the work shift depending on site conditions.

 

BALANCING: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, crouching, or working on elevated or unprotected surfaces while using required fall protection equipment. Frequently Activity may exist up to 60% of the work shift.

STOOPING: Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, requiring full use of leg and back muscles on a repetitive basis. Frequently Activity may exist up to 60% of the work shift.

 

KNEELING: Bending legs at the knee to come to rest on one or both knees. Occasionally Activity may exist up to 40% of the work shift.

 

CROUCHING: Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and waist. Frequently Activity may exist up to 60% of the work shift.

 

REACHING: Extending hands and arms in all directions to handle materials, tools, or equipment safely. Frequently Activity may exist up to 60% of the work shift.
